General George B. McClellan drove his Union army against General Robert E. Lee's southerners in the fields and woods surrounding Maryland village of Sharpsburg on September 17, 1862. In this scene you can see the fierce fight and courage displayed by the soldiers as they charge thru a cornfield to try to break the Union Infantry line. General John Bell Hood's 1st Texas Brigade suffered heavy casualties during the battle. Hood reported to General Robert E. Lee that his regiment and brigade was "decimated". The battle flags of the Army of Northern Virginia and the regimental flag of 1st Texas showing a lone star are in the scene.
